Over the next few weeks I will feature some of the finer groups on flickr featuring vintage art, print, advertising and graphics.
Mid-Century in Print is a group dedicated to vintage graphic art from the period of 1945 to 1965. It features a wonderful collection of book covers, advertising, magazine clips and a variety of ephemera. The group emphasizes text treatment and various examples of graphic arts specific to the period.
From the group description:
A place to post *anything* printed, for *any* audience, from the period spanning 1945-1965 (with a little latitude on either end).
We're looking for illustrations from sources including, but not limited to, magazines (including advertising), books, packaging, record album covers, etc.
The only thing I can think that probably doesn't belong are snapshot-type photos from the era, unless they're of signage ... there is another group, 1950's Style, that encompasses that kind of thing. In fact, we're not looking for any photography, even printed in mags or books, unless the typography that accompanies it is particularly special.
It's not that we don't love the cool editorial and advertising photography of the time, but our aim is to feature the illustration, graphic layout styles, and typography of the period.
Post as often and as much as you wish!
